After the Ironman 70.3 St. George race that involved a bike crash, Jen needed a race to redeem herself. Ironamn 70.3 Boise fit the bill. We flew out Thursday evening and arrived in Boise late that night.

Friday started off with packet pick-up for Jen’s race, followed by lunch at Bleubird Cafe, a (thankfully) uneventful putting-the-bike-back-together experience, stopping by Lucky Peak Reservoir (T1) to drop off the bike and a delicious dinner at Alavita.

Saturday’s Ironman 70.3 race was a late-starting one, beginning at noon instead of the usual 7am. Christopher went for a nice morning run along the Boise River before playing cheerleader for Jen.

Sunday was a day of exploration and relaxation. We started the day at the Capitol and spent the afternoon touring the Old Idaho Penitentiary, a prison from 1872 to 1973. We then finished the day off with a nice dinner at Bella Aquila

Boise surprised us, turning out to be a really pleasant place to visit. having the amenities and culture of a big-city, while still maintaining a nice small-town, accessible feel. Though the trip was short and a last-minute decision, it ended up being a very nice getaway.
