Looking to capitalize on our recent long course tri training, we headed out to Big Bear Lake for the Big Bear Olympic Triathlon. The course was tough, with 2000′ of elevation gain on the 31-mile bike course, lots of rollers on the run (700′ gain), all at 7000′ altitude, and in mildly warm weather (mid-80s F). Jen was crushing it (first woman overall out of the swim) before getting a flat tire that set her back on the bike. She still managed to finish strong to nab second place in her age group. Christopher had a great race with a win in his age group. We celebrated with lunch at Big Bear Lake Brewing Company and ice cream from North Pole Fudge & Ice Cream Co.
