After an injury derailed Christopher’s goal of running his first marathon last year in Portland, we both decided to give the California International Marathon a try this year. Unfortunately, this time Jennifer picked up an injury and would not be running.

We drove up to Sacramento on Saturday morning, visited the California State Capitol, did some sight-seeing around Old Sacramento, caught a movie, and finally enjoyed a pre-race dinner at Il Fornaio.

Sunday morning had us up early, so Christopher could catch a shuttle from the hotel to the start line in Folsom. Jennifer set off on her bike, to cheer him on at various spots along the course. Despite sub-freezing temperatures (29F at the start of the race), Christopher was able to far exceed his expectations, finishing in just under 3:15. He credits Jennifer’s ceaseless support and cheerleading.
