In preparation for our upcoming Trans-Catalina Trail trip, we decided it would be wise to dust off the backpacking gear. The plan was three days and two nights in the Santa Anita Canyon area. We drove out to Chantry Flats late afternoon on Friday, and then hiked in to Hoegee’s Campground. The next day, we had an early start and made our way to Spruce Grove Campground. After pitching our tent and dropping off our backpacks, we hiked up Mount Wilson (5,700′ elevation) where we explored the telescopes and had a nice lunch at the cafe. We enjoyed a nice evening relaxing by the fire and the following morning made our way back to Chantry Flats.
