The Desert International Triathlon in La Quinta, CA was Christopher’s first triathlon – 3/4 mile swim, 24 mile bike, and 6 mile run. We drove into town Saturday for packet pick-up and a simple carb dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory. Race-day morning, we arrived at Lake Cahuilla and were greeted with a beautiful sunrise. After setting up our transition areas, we headed down to the lake for a quick warm-up. The swim, a simple rectangle course hugging the shoreline, was pretty straight-forward. After exiting the water, it was on to the bikes, where we both enjoyed the flat and fast two-loop course (which covered a portion we had ridden earlier in the year at the Tour de Palm Springs Century). After racking the bikes, it was on to the run course, two laps around Lake Cahuilla, mostly over dirt trails. Soon enough, we were both crossing the finish line. Really fun race!
