Christopher had signed up earlier in the year to run the Portland Marathon, hoping to take his first crack at 26.2 miles. Unfortunately, a hip injury would keep him from racing, but with plane tickets and hotel already booked, we still flew out to Washington to pick up Mom, and drove south to spend five days in Oregon. While we made day trips out to the Willamette Valley, the Oregon Coast, and the Columbia River Gorge, the rest of the trip was spent in the city of Portland. Highlights of our time there include checking out street art as part of the First Thursday Art Walk, a visit to the amazing Powell’s City of Books, walking around Chinatown, strolling through Washington Park’s Japanese and Rose Gardens, and some outstanding meals at Jake’s Famous Crawfish, Little t American Baker, PBJ’s Grilled, Salt & Straw, Deschutes Brewery Portland Public Houser, and Voodoo Doughnut.
