As part of Space Shuttle Endeavour’s retirement, the 175,000-pound orbiter was flown on top of a NASA Boeing 747 to Los Angeles. For its final time aloft, and escorted by two F/A-18 escort fighters, the piggybacked shuttle made low flyovers all across the city, including past our house in San Pedro, before eventually landing at LAX. A few days of careful land maneuvering through the city then took the shuttle to its resting home at the California Science Center where it is now on display to the general public.
