On the morning of the last day of our lake house trip, we still had baskets full of wild blackberries that we had picked earlier in the week. We settled on making a simple compote to have with crepes.

Crepes with Blackberry Compote

There were five of us, so we simply doubled up our usual crepe recipe, which made enough for 3-4 crepes each.

Compote

2 cups wild blackberries
1/2 cup sugar
Juice of 1 lemon

Make and cook crepes according to the directions linked above.

Blend blackberries in a blender until smooth. Pour berry mixture through a sieve to remove seeds. Warm sugar and lemon juice until sugar is dissolved. Add berry mixture and cook, stirring until berries are warm and juices begin to be released, 2 to 3 minutes. Add more sugar to taste as desired.

To serve, place crepe flat on a large plate, spread out a dollop of compote, roll crepe, and top with fresh blackberries.
